Manchester-based American songwriter Run Remedy introduces forthcoming EP Not at the Table with ‘Dissent’, a stripped-back single about the point where disagreement stops being an attempt to understand each other and becomes a grim competition to be right.
Through looping phrases and small sonic interruptions, the song circles like an argument in which nobody changes their mind but everyone leaves exhausted. Crucially, Run Remedy does not simply point across the table. Eventually, the scrutiny turns back on herself.
Not at the Table is built around the image of a house full of conversations that cannot quite happen. On ‘Dissent’, we have reached the dining room, where kindness has apparently been served but nobody is touching it.
