Croydon queer electro art-rockers Bugeye are done making themselves smaller on ‘This Is What I Want’, the latest single from their excellent second album, The Shape Of Things. Even better, they’ll be bringing it to LOUD WOMEN at The Lady Luck in Canterbury this autumn.
Dirty guitars, sharp synths and a big, strutting beat turn a depressingly necessary message into something built for the dancefloor. The song takes aim at the manosphere, fragile male egos and the demand that women remain decorative, obedient and conveniently silent.
“We’re not dolls. We’re not trophies. We’re not here to make ourselves smaller so someone else can feel bigger.”
It should not need saying in 2026, but apparently here we are. BUGEYE keep the lyrics deliberately direct because there is no complicated argument to unpack: women are people, not accessories with a mute button.
