A true character on stage, BEX delivered a performance that channelled energy right into the audience. It has been a while since BEX has done a headline show in London and she has definitely been missed! Although eager festival goers might have spotted Big BEX crowd surfing and enjoying mosh pits this summer, proving they have been busy, so we can’t blame them too much for not appearing live on stage.
BEX has always delivered a great live spectacle, her performance at Rebellion festival last year was the perfect example, and the night at Haggerston was no different. First she confused everyone by handing out cocktail sticks, which were a catalyst of little bit of violence as I had a mini sword fight, and the pit looked a little bit more feisty. One lucky fan also got a tea bag for “spilling some tea”… unfortunately she didn’t drink tea, but we all got a good laugh. These small interactions created a naturally bonding atmosphere, being in that room made it feel like it was full of good friends.
BEX had a tough year, including having property stolen from her clothing range, so to add a little cheer I bought her some red roses. Everyone needs a little unexpected reminder that they matter, and mine was when she brought them out on stage! They complimented her perfectly.
Opening for BEX, TNL VZN brought shoegaze to the stage. The band had undeniable presence, with charisma shining through not only their music, but also their performance. Eva May Beards vocals immediately caught my attention and she delivered an incredible set. Her powerful voice, energetic stage presence and constant engagement with the crowd made for a captivating performance. By the end of the set, the audience was energised, fuelled by the band’s infectious passion and the sheer power of live music.
Metal core artist Porcelyne was up next and brought real rage to the dance floor. Moshers united in circle pits, fans sang along and we all watched in awe as this incredible vocalist took over the stage like it belonged to her. Her band was nothing but fierce and unafraid of joining the action – and neither was Porcelyne. She even stirred a circle pit around her before going back on stage to finish her act.
