Think about the people around you, not only yourself.
It sounds simple, but it sits at the heart of everything LOUD WOMEN does. If everyone looks out for the people around them, everyone gets looked after.
As we prepare for the first LOUD WOMEN Fest Dublin at Fibber Magee’s on Saturday 29 August, we’re delighted to be working with Safe Gigs Ireland to share our approach to creating a safer, more welcoming live music space.
We deliberately use the word safer.
There is no such thing as a completely safe space. No venue, festival or community can guarantee that every person will feel safe at every moment, and different people face very different risks and barriers.
What we can do is think about those risks before the doors open. We can consider who might be excluded, intimidated or made uncomfortable. We can make support visible. We can challenge harassment and discrimination. We can respect boundaries. And, crucially, we can ask everyone who enters the space to think about how their own behaviour affects the people around them.
For LOUD WOMEN, this isn’t an extra set of rules bolted onto a festival. It’s part of the whole reason we exist.
DIY music works best when it is a community rather than a competition: artists supporting artists, audiences looking out for one another, venues taking responsibility for the people inside them, and all of us helping to create the kind of music scene we actually want to be part of.
That’s the spirit we’re bringing to Dublin.
And there is going to be plenty to celebrate. LOUD WOMEN Fest Dublin brings nine brilliant acts to Fibber Magee’s:
Bill Ricky + DC Dolls + Dose + FOSFÍN + Holy Show + I, Doris + Molly Vulpyne + Second Idol + Taylor D
We want you to discover your new favourite band, dance, shout, sing, meet people, take up space and have a brilliant day — while remembering that everyone around you has exactly the same right to do so.
