German-Filipino, Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Bunny Alex brings the feeling of a first crush to life with ‘The Ocean’, a mellow bedroom-pop track that feels like falling in love in slow motion. This second single from Bunny Alex’s upcoming debut EP is soft, dreamy, and almost impossibly sweet, capturing the excitement of discovering someone and slowly falling for who they are.

There is something wonderfully nostalgic about ‘The Ocean’. The soft vocals, bouncy bass and gentle guitar melodies create a hazy, romantic atmosphere that feels like the soundtrack to a summer coming-of-age film. At times, the dreamy pop reminds me of the romantic warmth of Hayley Kiyoko, while its easygoing quality carries a little of the intimacy of The 1975. It is the kind of song that makes you picture a couple falling for each other through a series of little moments rather than one grand declaration.

Bunny Alex sings about watching someone move through the light, listening to stories about the cities they have lived in and the friends they have outgrown. It is not just physical attraction; it is the excitement of becoming fascinated by another person’s entire world. The feeling is almost like having a high-school crush again, when simply learning someone’s favourite band or hearing them tell a story can feel like discovering an entirely new universe.

That is what makes ‘The Ocean’ so relatable. Falling for someone can be exhilarating, but finding the words to explain just how much you feel can be surprisingly difficult. Bunny Alex turns that inability to put love into words into part of the song itself, allowing the dreamy instrumentation to express what the lyrics cannot quite capture.

The result is a song filled with the colours of a summer sunset: soft blues, purples and warm pinks, all wrapped around the feeling of a romance that is still new enough to feel almost unreal. ‘The Ocean’ feels like a montage of two people falling for each other without realizing they are creating memories they will one day look back on.

For daydreamers, hopeless romantics and anyone who remembers the magic of their first real crush, ‘The Ocean’ is an absolute treat. Bunny Alex has created something gentle and cinematic, proving that sometimes the sweetest love songs are the ones that simply capture what it feels like to be completely speechless around someone.

‘The Ocean’ is out now on all major streaming platforms and is the second single from Bunny Alex’s debut EP, due in autumn 2026.
